So this Saturday, on December 14th, there’s going to be a talk and discussion in Bandra that I’ve organised.
Four very cool professionals will talk about workplaces that range from a stage to a corporate office. If you didn’t recognise the names, allow me to introduce them briefly:
Meenal Baghel is the editor of Mumbai Mirror and the author of the book Death in Mumbai, which is about the Neeraj Grover murder case. (If you haven’t read it, Flipkart/Amazon it now.)
Lekha Washington is an actress and the designer of some of the coolest chairs I’ve ever seen. Her latest film release was Kalyana Samayal Saadham.
Aditi Mittal is one of the few women doing stand-up comedy. This results in audiences giggling, but uncomfortably, when she starts talking about things like the engineering of sanitary napkins. Not only is she very funny, but she’s also got insight and a lot of stories about being a woman comedian.
Suranjana Ghosh Aikara will be talking about the corporate world. She worked with BBC in the past and is presently with Network 18. I actually spoke to her for the first time when she drew attention to the very serious issue of how airport security treats physically disabled people.
These ladies — with some interference from yours truly — will be talking about what’s it like to be a woman at work. How easy or difficult is it to be taken seriously? Are women paranoid about being discriminated against? How do boys react when you invade the all-boys’ club? Is there more respect for a really good woman professional because the expectation is that she’ll just be average? All this and more, on December 14th. Each of the speakers will talk about their experiences and understanding of the industries they work in and I’ll be roping in the men in the audience to agree, disagree and add perspective.
It’s the first time I’m doing something like this and helping me out with the venue are the two winsome folks who run Upstairs, Suresh Venkat and Lekha, whom I’ve already told you about.
If you’d like to attend, then send me an email at this address: email@example.com. The details of Women At Work are:
